Huskies Down Utes on Late Three-Pointer

SALT LAKE CITY - Washington's three-pointer with three seconds remaining lifted the Huskies to a 58-55 victory over the Utah women's basketball team on Wednesday evening in the Huntsman Center.
Utah has had six of its seven games this year decided by 12 points or less.
Michelle Plouffe led Utah with her third double-double of the season, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds. Brittany Knighton had her first double figure performance of the season with 14 points.
The contest was tied three times in the final five minutes and the lead changed hands five times. Washington (3-2) held a three-point lead with 3:33 left on the clock before a Knighton layup and three-pointer from Iwalani Rodrigues put Utah up by two, 55-53. Sarah Morton pulled the Huskies even with a pair of free-throw shots with 46 seconds remaining.
With 15 seconds remaining, Utah (3-4) turned the ball over on a shot clock violation before Marjorie Heard's three to win it for Washington.
Utah held Washington scoreless through the first 4:30 of the game, taking a 6-0 lead. Although the Huskies would come back to go up by as many as six points during the half, Utah rallied in the final two minutes to tie the game at the break, 31-31. Down by four, 28-24, the Utes ended the half with a 7-2 run that included baskets from Plouffe and Rachel Messer. Plouffe had 10 points and seven rebounds at the break.
The main difference in the game was free-throw shooting, as Washington went 19-for-25 from the free-throw line and Utah was 9-for-11. Statistically, the teams had similar numbers in shooting percentage, turnovers, rebounds and steals.
Morton led Washington with 20 points.
Utah remains at home on Saturday to face SEC foe Arkansas at 3:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.
