The University of Utah football team placed 20 members on the 2009 fall Academic all-Mountain West Conference team, the league office announced today. Eleven Utah starters were among Utah's academic honorees, including all five starting offensive linemen: Zane Beadles, Tony Bergstrom, Caleb Schlauderaff, Tevita Stevens and Zane Taylor.
Freshman receiver Luke Matthews, who played in all 13 games and started two, recorded the team's best fall GPA--a 3.72. Senior offensive tackle Beadles, who made three All-America first teams and was a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, earned a 3.56 GPA in his final semester. Beadles graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
