Dear Tennis Friends,
After a brief review of our last match against Weber State, I would like to move our focus towards our big test this upcoming weekend against Boise State and the University of San Francisco.
Last Friday we had a good showing against in-state rival Weber State. Weber always comes ready to battle and they showed their poise from the start in doubles. We started off slow, but were able to capture the doubles point after wins at the #1 and #2 positions. After an exciting conclusion of the doubles, the guys did a much better job in singles and took care of business to beat the Wildcats, 5-2.
With the win we are now 4-3 on the season and have won 3 consecutive matches.
In order to extend our win streak we will have to beat two tough opponents in Boise State and USF. Coach Patton and Boise State will come to Salt Lake City to get some revenge for last year's loss to us in Boise, when we beat them 4-3. BSU ended the season ranked #20 in the nation last year and are currently ranked #29. Coach Patton will have his Broncos ready to battle and it will take a great effort from our team in order to repeat! First serve will be Friday February 26 at 5pm at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The University of San Francisco will pay us a visit us 24 hours later, Saturday February 27 at 5pm. The Dons have proven to be a tough team for us the past few years and we expect yet another difficult battle. We last played the Dons In 2008, our MWC championship year, where they barely got the best of us, 4-3.
We will have a quick turnaround the USF match as we leave Sunday morning for San Francisco. We will then take on national powerhouses Cal Berkeley (Tuesday) and Stanford (Wednesday). Cal is currently ranked #27 and Stanford is ranked #8.
So the next few days will tell us a lot about our team. It will be a great test, as well as a learning experience for our team and we are looking forward to the challenge. Every match from here on out will require the best from each one of our guys in order for us to win. But this experience will only make us stronger.
We hope to continue our winning ways this upcoming weekend and we hope that we can count on your support yet again.
Thanks for your continuing support and GO UTES,
