SALT LAKE CITY -
Two dates have been adjusted on Utah's 2010 football schedule, including a home game against Pittsburgh. Utah will open the coming season against Pittsburgh on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Rice-Eccles Stadium. In addition, the Utah-Iowa State game has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 9 in Ames, Iowa. The kickoff times are to be determined.
"We like to open the season in advance of the Labor Day weekend to give our fans who like to travel over the holiday a chance to watch our game before they head out of town," said Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill about the date change for the Pitt game.
In a similar schedule move, Utah's home game against Iowa State in 2011 will be played on Thursday, Sept. 1 instead of the original date of Sept. 3.
Utah, Pitt and Iowa State all finished the 2009 season on a winning note, with Utah beating Cal 37-27 in the Poinsettia Bowl, Pittsburgh edging North Carolina 19-17 in the Meineke Car Care Bowl and Iowa State holding off Minnesota 14-13 in the Insight Bowl. Pitt (10-3) and Utah (10-3) finished the 2009 season ranked in the Top-25 in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' polls. Utah finished 18th in both polls, while Pitt checked in at No. 15. Iowa State recorded a 7-6 mark.
Utah is 1-0 all-time against Pittsburgh--beating the Panthers 35-7 in the 2004 Fiesta Bowl. The Utes are 0-4 against Iowa State, with the last loss coming in 1976. Utah is 0-2 all-time in Ames.
