SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (4-5) will travel to California to take on two Pac-10 teams. The first match is against No. 15-ranked Cal Berkeley (7-2) Tuesday. The Utes will then see No. 14-ranked Stanford (7-3) Wednesday. Both matches will begin at 1:30 p.m. PT.
The last time Utah saw Cal Berkeley and Stanford was on the road in February 2004. The Utes fell to the Golden Bears, 6-0, and defeated by The Cardinal, 7-0.
This year Cal has topped six ranked opponents including Stanford, 4-3. The Golden Bears have three currently ranked singles players on their squad, No. 31 Pedro Zerbini, No. 78 Jonathan Dahan and No. 111 Christoffer Konigsfeldt.
The Cardinal have defeated six ranked opponents as well, including Boise State, 6-1. Stanford has two currently ranked singles players, No. 18 Bradley Klahn and No. 34 Alex Clayton and two ranked doubles teams, No. 2 Klahn and Ryan Thacher and No. 26 Clayton and Richard Wire.
Last weekend the Utes hosted back-to-back matches against No. 29-ranked Boise State and San Francisco. Utah was defeated by the Broncos, 6-1, with freshmen Alex Golding earning Utah's point from the No. 3 slot topping Harry Skinner, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. The Utes played a tough match against the Dons but came up short, 4-3. Utah had wins from the No. 1 doubles position of Phillip Eilers and Golding and the Nos. 2, 4 and 5 singles slots.
