SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team is back in action, beginning their spring season in Goodyear, Ariz. The Utes will compete in the 2010 Desert Shootout hosted by the University of Denver. The tournament will begin on Thursday and finish Saturday with 18 holes played each day for a three-day total of 54 holes. The tournament will take place at the Palm Valley Golf Course consisting of a 7,015 yard, 71-par course.
The Field: Fifteen teams will make up the field, including: Boise State, BYU, Denver, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Pacific, Southern Utah, Nebraska, Utah, VCU, Wichita State and Xavier.
The Last Year: The Utes did not participate in the Desert Shootout last year. The University of Denver won the tournament last year shooting a three-day total of 829, 35-under par. Tom Whitney led the individuals with a total of 200, 16-under par.
The Last Time: The Utes were last seen in action at the Kauai Invite in Kauai, Hawaii. Utah completed the tournament tied for fifth place shooting a score of 871 (285, 291, 295), seven-over par. Freshman Camden Nicholson led the Utes during the invite finishing in sixth place with a score of 210 (67, 69, 74).
