SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (5-10, 0-0) begins conference play on the road Thursday, April 1 when they take on the defending MWC Champions New Mexico at 1 p.m. (5-7, 0-0). The Utes will then see Air Force (10-5, 0-0) Saturday at 10 a.m.
Last year Utah fell to the Lobos, 5-2, in San Diego, Calif. The loss gave the Utes their first conference match loss of the season.
The Utes are on a six match winning streak against Air Force. Utah has swept the Falcons, 7-0, the past three years.
This year New Mexico have posted wins over two ranked opponents, No. 58 Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 7-0, and No. 57 Middle Tennessee State, 6-1. New Mexico was defeated by New Mexico State, 4-3, who the Utes topped last weekend.
Air Force is currently on a three match losing streak. The Falcons will face BYU Thursday before seeing the Utes on Saturday.
Last weekend the Utes snapped a seven match losing streak defeating New Mexico State, 4-3. Senior Phillip Eilers is riding a four match winning streak at the No. 1 singles position. The doubles team of seniors Timmy Allin and Jason Smits are also on a four match winning streak at the No. 2 doubles slot.
