SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (7-14, 2-3 MWC) is set to host in-state rival No. 35-ranked BYU (20-5, 5-0 MWC) Saturday, April 24 at noon to complete regular season conference matches.
Last year the Utes downed the Cougars for a second consecutive year in conference play since April 1997.
This year the Cougars have received a high national ranking of No. 23 and are currently the highest ranked team in the conference. Last weekend BYU defeated conference opponents No. 56 San Diego State, 4-3, and No. 58 UNLV, 7-0.
Last weekend the Utes also hosted UNLV and San Diego State. Utah began with a win against the Lobos, 4-3, with Dmytro Mamedov delivering the clinching point from the No. 6 position. The second match against the Aztecs was hard-fought but the Utes came up short falling, 5-2.
Saturday's match will take place at the Liberty Park Tennis Center weather permitting. If it is raining or the temperature drops below 50 degrees the matches will move inside to the Eccles Tennis Center.
