Video of Utah's First Practice, Aug. 5
Football practice moved to the stadium today and coach Kyle Whittingham says the Utes won't return to the McCarthey Practice Fields until school starts to preserve the grass. For the remainder of camp, practices will be divided between the stadium and Ute Baseball Field.
Whittingham liked what his team has accomplished in its first two days in shorts and helmets. Tomorrow, the players don shoulder pads, which will increase the physicality of the practices. "We won't put on full gear until next Tuesday, but there's a lot of bumping and physical play once the shoulder pads go on," said Whittingham.
Terming today's practice as "more of the same as yesterday, but a little better, a little sharper," Whittingham labeled receiver Jereme Brooks as one who stood out. "Jereme is definitely our go-to receiver." He also liked the play of receiver Shaky Smithson, all three running backs and noted that defensive Conroy Black continues to improve.
The most requested players for media interviews were running back Eddie Wide and defensive tackle Dave Kruger.
