SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah Men's tennis team opens its spring season against Weber State, Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center. The Match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
"We are excited for this season to start," remarked head coach F.D. Robbins. "It will be great for these young guys to have their first collegiate match."
The Utes are coming of a challenging but promising fall season and are led by returning veterans Benito Suriano and Dmytro Mamedov. Suriano led the Utes this fall with a 5-2 record for a 71.4 winning percentage. The team's best individual tournament finisher was freshman Alejandro Medinilla, who reached the singles semifinals at the Boise State Classic.
Last time against Weber: The Utes topped the Wildcats last season, 5-2. Stephen Jacobs clinched the match for the Utes from the No. 6 spot, defeating Ben Rode 6-1, 6-3.
The next match for the Utes will be Friday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. as they host the Utah State Aggies at the Eccles Tennis Center.
