SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team is slated to participate in the University of Wyoming's Cowboy Classic, presented by Cleveland Golf and Srixon, Monday and Tuesday. Both days of play will begin with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start at the Talking Stick Golf Club on the7,133-yard, par-70 North Course. Two rounds of 18 holes will played on Monday, followed by a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Field
The Utes will compete against 20 teams, including: Air Force, Arizona, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, UC Davis, Gonzaga, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Nevada, Oregon State, San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego, Santa Clara, Utah State, Wichita State, and Wyoming.
Last Week
Utah returns to action after a two-tournament weekend on the road. The Utes completed the University of Arizona National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., on the Omni Tucson National Catalina and Sonoran courses, March 21-22. Utah posted a tournament-low score of 300 during the third round to post a final score of 914 (312-302-300) to tie for 12th. Senior Derek Adams earned his second-best finish of the year, tying for 26th with a mark of 223 (76-77-70).
The Utes then headed to San Diego Calif., for the SDSU Barona Collegiate Cup at the Barona Creek Golf Club. A third-round score of 401 put Utah at 1152 (368-383-401) for the tournament and in 14th place. For the first time this season, freshman Ben Bankhead led the squad with his best finish of the season, swinging a 225 (72-77-76) to tie for 32nd.
Last Time at the Cowboy Classic
Utah finished the tournament in 22nd place with a three-round total of 907 (299-308-300). Then-junior Jeff Kitches led the Utes in a tie for 53rd place, shooting an 11-over par score of 221 (69-76-76).
