SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team completes the 2011 season at the 49th annual Ping Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. The tournament is set to take place April 15-16, at the par-71, 6,902 yard Riverside Country Club. An 8 a.m. shotgun start will begin rounds one and two on Friday, followed by the final round on Saturday. Live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com.
The Field Eighteen teams will accompany the Utes at this year's Ping Cougar Classic, including Mountain West Conference rivals Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, UNLV, and Wyoming. The tournament will also include Boise State, UC Davis, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Pacific, Southern Utah, Utah State, Texas El Paso, Washington State, and Weber State.
Last Time at the Cougar Classic The Utes posted a final score of 890 (302-300-288) to tie for 15th. Joe Webber led Utah through the tournament with a stellar 10th-place finish and a two-under-par mark of 214 (71-72-71), a career-best.
Derek Adams tied for 43rd place after shooting a low third round of 69 and a total of 225 (77-75-69), while Chase Hite posted a mark of 225 (74-79-72) to tie for 63rd. Kaleb Mahanes was next to finish on the Ute roster, tying for 83rd with a score of 231 (81-74-76). Mike Branca tied for 95th, swinging a 239 (80-82-77).
Last Time Out Utah recently completed the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Utes earned their season-best mark of 284 during the final round for a finish of 870 (292-294-284), tying for 15th. Adams tied for 20th with a two-over-par score of 212 (70-72-70), while senior Jeff Kitches and freshman Ben Bankhead both swung an even-with-par 70 during the third round, tying for 45th with identical scores of 218(75-73-70). Branca tied for 75th with a score of 223 (75-75-73), while fellow senior Chase Hite tied for 91st with a mark of 227 (79-74-74).
The Ping Cougar Classic is the final tournament before the MWC Championships in Tucson, Ariz., March 5-7.
