SALT LAKE CITY--The Utah football team will wrap up its 2011 spring camp on Saturday with the eighth-annual Red-White game in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. and admission is free. After the game, players and coaches will sign autographs.
While it is an intra-squad game, there is something riding on the outcome: The losing team and coaches must clean the Smith Athletics Center on Monday.
The designated head coaches are offensive line coach Tim Davis (red team) and defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a (white team). Assistants for the red team are Kalani Sitake, Jay Hill, Aaron Roderick and Brian Johnson. Assistants for the white team are Morgan Scalley, Norm Chow and Dave Schramm.
The game will feature 10-minute quarters with a normal clock in the first half and a running clock in the second half. Halftime will last eight minutes. Each team will be allowed two timeouts per half. There will not be any punt or kickoff returns.
While there will be no limitations on what the offense can run, the defense can only rush four players and drop seven back. Any deviations from that defensive structure (such as slanting, blitzing, twisting, looping, bluffing, spying, etc.) will result in a 15-yard penalty.
Players who will be held out for either precautionary reasons or injuries include Jordan Wynn, Star Lotulelei, Joape Pela, Matt Martinez, Vyncent Jones, J.J. Williams, Sam Brenner, Greg Bird, Tony Bergstrom, James Aiono, DeVonte Christopher, Lei Talamaivao, Chaz Walker, Kendrick Moeai, Ryan Lacy, Dallin Rogers and John Cullen, among others.
Others such as Brian Blechen, Conroy Black, Joe Kruger and Derrick Shelby will play only in the first half.
