NORMAN, Okla. - Senior Derek Adams of the University of Utah golf team was selected as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
"We're really excited for Derek because this is a prestigious honor," Utah head coach Randall McCracken said. "It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to be an Academic All-American. You have to put in a lot of time to be successful in academics as well as on the course and obtain the requirements for the award. We're extremely proud and it's a great honor to have a student-athlete earn this award."
Adams carried a 74.76 average through 33 rounds during his senior season, highlighted by a low score of 68 during the final round en route to a 16th-place finish at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. He also posted a 19th-place effort at the BYU Cougar Classic with a season-best score of one-over-par (271). His lowest three-round score of the season was 212, which was good for a 20th-place tie at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships and have a stroke-average under 76.0. Recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his university.
