SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team posted a 3.129 team GPA for the 2011 fall semester, the second-highest team semester GPA in the last 20 years.
Five Runnin' Utes were named to the Dean's List, led by Kyle Perkins who registered a 4.0, while 10 Utes were named to the Athletics Academic Honor Roll with GPA's of 3.0 or better. Several players are facing challenging academic tracks, including two who are enrolled in pre-med/pre-dental programs, while four others are pursuing business degrees. Senior David Foster and juniors Chris Hines and Jason Washburn are all on track to finish their undergraduate work one year early and will have the option to enroll in graduate programs as they continue their playing careers.
"Class Counts has been our motto since taking over here at Utah," said head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "Achieving a team GPA above 3.1 is something we are very proud of. Our players and our academic staff, including Al Reiser and Colby Vranes, have worked extremely hard and our goal is to continue this kind of academic success as we build a full-package program both on and off the court."
The only semester better than this for Utah men's basketball was a 3.288 in the fall of 2008.
