SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah golf team is slated to open its 2012 season at the Arizona Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz. The tournament will be held on the par-71, 6,900-yard Arizona National Golf Club course.
Format
Thirty-six holes of continuous play will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun-start on Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Field
Competing in the 13-team tournament are Pac-12 Conference foes Arizona and California, as well as UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Campbell, Central Arkansas, McNeese State, New Mexico, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Texas-El Paso, and Utah.
Last Time at Arizona Intercollegiate
The Utes finished with a three-round score of 926 (302-315-309), placing them in 15th at the 2011 Arizona Intercollegiate. Ben Bankhead led the Utes in 46th place, posting a mark of 227 (74-78-75).
Fall Review
The Arizona Intercollegiate marks the Utes' first tournament of the 2011-12 spring season. Utah saw a great effort from its young talent this fall, including freshman Jack Maerki and freshman Gentry Hicks.
Maerki made his collegiate debut at the Falcon Invitational with a top-10 finish, posting a score of 214 (73-72-69).
Hicks led the Utes through the Tucker Invitational, tying for 24th with a mark of 223 (75-74-74).
Utah's most experienced player, junior Joe Webber, posted a score of 213 (69-71-73) at Utes' final fall appearance at the MacKenzie Invitational.
