SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team announced the commitment of David Papis-Elon Thursday. Papis-Elon will join the Utes for the 2012-13 season.
"What impressed me the most was the coaching staff's attitude and personality," said Papis-Elon. "The Pac 12 conference plays an extremely high level of tennis, which I can't wait to be a part of. Furthermore I believe Utah's coaching staff can help me elevate my game to its peak."
In 2010, Papis-Elon was ranked No. 1 in Israel national 18 and under rankings. He also reached the boys doubles finals of an ITF Juniors event in 2010, after winning that event in 2009. Papis-Elon graduated Rothberg High School in Ramat Hasharon, Israel in June of 2010 and is currently serving in the Israeli military.
"We are very proud to announce the commitment of David Papis-Elon," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "David will have an immediate impact on our starting singles and doubles line up and will furthermore improve our program to compete at the Pac-12 level. He is an offensive minded player who fits right into our style of coaching."
"Though I haven't been with the Utes for very long, I feel a growing sense of pride being part of such an elite group of athletes," said Papis-Elon. "I am also very confident that we can take the Utes to an even higher level."
