SALT LAKE CITY - Utah golf head coach Randall McCracken announced the addition of three student-athletes today. Max McGrail and Jose Pelayo, both junior college transfers from Iowa Western CC, and Andrew Grundberg will join the roster for the 2014-15 season.
"We are very excited about this group of student-athletes," McCracken said. "Max and Jose are proven performers in college golf and will bring a lot of depth to our team. They both add experience and improve our program. Andrew is an up-and-coming talent and I believe the sky is the limit with him. His work ethic, developing talent and outstanding natural ability are going to really help this team."
Pelayo hails from Temecula, California and was a first team NJCAA All-American as a freshman. He capped his first season with a third-place finish (-6) at the NJCAA National Championship and was named to the all-tournament team
McGrail comes to Utah from across the pond in London, England. He was a second team NJCAA All-American at Iowa Western CC and finished eighth at the National Championship with a 3-under score
This past fall, McGrail earned top-10 finishes in all five events he participated in, and placed second at the Midland University Invitational. Pelayo only had one finish outside of the top 20 in five events this fall, placing second at the Mustang 36 Fall Challenge.
Grundberg, a Brentwood, Tennessee native, has had 10 top-25 finishes, four top-10 finishes, during his 2013 junior tournament season
"This is a great class for us," McCracken added. "I feel we've done a great job in landing these three players and I'm excited to have them joining our program. All of them are outstanding young men and I'm really looking forward to working with them and watching them play next year."
