Keep checking UtahUtes.com all season for a behind-the-scenes look at some of the University of Utah football team's preparations. The Utes continued to prepare for their Pac-12 Conference road contest next Thursday at Oregon State.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in full pads on Friday for its second practice of Oregon State week (Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. PT / Fox Sports 1). Tagging a ball carrier was enough to bring them down during a workout held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
? The Utes continued to get ready for their matchup at Oregon State by focusing on their assignments in each phase of the game that they will need to execute when facing the Beavers.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with a 7-on-7 scrimmage on the opposite end. the first-team offensive and defensive lines going 1-on-1 in the north end, while the scout team lines went through similar drills.
? In the next segment, full-team special teams was held at midfield while the offense went through their plays and assignments and the linemen concentrated on their technique.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? Wanted to maximize the team's second bye week by staying sharp with enough time on the field, but taking some time to get rested and healed up. ? Oregon State at home last year was a tough game, a great game for the fans although we came out on the short end. We were one play away from winning that game. OSU made the play and we didn't. Give them credit. We don't spend a lot of time on redemption, we spend it on what Oregon State is doing this year and what the matchups are. ? We've had good defensive linemen throughout the years and that is continuing with this young group.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Ute Players ...
Receiver Kenneth Scott
? Competition is nothing new to us. It's what makes us a team. Everyone just comes out and works with a positive attitude every day.
Defensive Coordinator Kalani Sitake
? We have really good players who are tough and relentless.
? It's my job to remind Nate Orchard that he can still improve.
? The culture and system that Coach Whittingham put in place started the tough mentality of the defensive line and we are just sticking with it. ? Focusing on finishing games and improving each week.
#PrepareU Extras ...
? The scout team wore orange jerseys with black trim similar to Oregon State.
