SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Tom Hackett, Nate Orchard, Andy Phillips and Kaelin Clay have been selected to Midseason All-America football teams. Utah's three selections to the CBSSports.com first team (Hackett, Orchard, Clay) is tied for the most by any team with Florida State and Ole Miss.
Hackett, a first-team selection by both CBSSports.com and ESPN, ranks second in the nation and leads the Pac-12 in punting, averaging 48.0 yards on 30 punts. He has placed 43% (13-of-30) of his punts inside the 20-yard line, including 11 inside the 10-yard line for the Utes, who lead the nation in net punting (45.20 average).
Orchard and Clay joined Hackett on the CBSSports.com first team. Orchard, a senior defensive end, leads the nation in sacks per game (1.7) and ranks second in total sacks (8.5 for 50 yards). He is also fifth in the nation in tackles for loss per game (1.8).
Clay, CBSSports.com's first-team punt returner, is the only player in the country with three punt returns for touchdowns and four total returns (1 kickoff) for a touchdown. The senior is fourth in the nation in punt return average (23.1).
Phillips was a second-team Midseason All-America kicker by SI.com. Phillips, who is 10-for-12 (83.3%) in field goals this season, is tied for second in the nation in field goals of 40+ yards with seven (7-of-9). He leads the Pac-12 in scoring (10.8 points per game).
