Keep checking UtahUtes.com all season for a behind-the-scenes look at some of the University of Utah football team's preparations. The Utes continued to prepare for their Pac-12 Conference South Division clash at Arizona State on Tuesday at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in full pads on Tuesday for its first on-field practice in preparation of its road matchup at Arizona State (Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. MDT / Fox Sports 1). Touching a ball carrier was enough to bring them down during a workout held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
? The Utes continued to get ready for their matchup at Arizona State by focusing on assignments and techniques in each phase of the game they will need against the Sun Devils.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with 7-on-7 scrimmaging from a spacer on the offense's own 40-yard line, while the offensive and defensive lines went through 1-on-1 drills.
? In the final segment, full-team special team work took place on the south side, while the quarterbacks and receivers went through their routes and other position groups scattered on the other half of the field for individual drills.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? The accolades and rankings the team has received is nice recognition for the players.
? Each game has its own story line and every week brings a different challenge and is another opportunity for his team to prove itself.
? Arizona State is a physical team that is balanced and physical.
? Close finishes are why you coach. The atmosphere in Rice-Eccles Stadium was electric on Saturday night.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Ute Players ...
Travis Wilson
? The game-winning scoring drive against USC was a good drive for the offense. They practiced that play to Kaelin Clay a lot.
? The goal of the offense is to make sure they execute like that the entire game.
Filipo Mokofisi
? Being a starter means a lot. He was happy to just be a part of the rotation, especially being in his second year.
? His success was due to working in the weight room, focusing on nutrition and getting enough sleep. ? It is fun to continue his father's legacy (Filipo Mokofisi lettered for the Utes from 1982-85 and was an all-Western Athletic Conference linebacker). His father coached him starting when he was 8 years old until high school.
#PrepareU Extras ...
? It was announced toward the end of the media availability period that Utah was No. 17 in the first-ever College Football Playoff rankings. ? Three different little league football teams visited the Utes for autographs and photos after practice. ? The scout team wore maroon jerseys with yellow trim to simulate the uniforms worn by the Sun Devils.
