Keep checking UtahUtes.com all season for a behind-the-scenes look at some of the University of Utah football team's preparations. The Utes continued to prepare for their matchup at Stanford on Wednesday at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in shoulder pads, helmets and leggings (for most) on Wednesday for its second on-field practice in preparation of its road game at Stanford (Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. PDT / Pac-12 Networks). Touching a ball carrier was enough to bring them down during a workout held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
? The Utes continued to get ready for their matchup at Stanford by concentrating on the assignments and techniques of each phase of the game they will need to face the Cardinal.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with full squad special teams work, while quarterbacks and wide receivers worked on their route combinations and the offensive and defensive line went through their blocking assignments in separate groups.
? The next period saw full-team work from the red zone followed by reps in goal-to-go situations.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? Announced that redshirt freshman Conner Manning will be the designated No. 2 quarterback for the Stanford game. He noted that Manning is a fighter and has continued to study and work in all phases.
? Reiterated that they have to be able to move the ball against a stout Stanford defense.
? Also must protect the ball and get back to excellent special teams.
? They will do their best to limit the opportunities for Stanford's Ty Montgomery in the return game.
? Two of the best return men in college football (Utah senior Kaelin Clay and Montgomery) will be featured on Saturday.
? Praised defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake as a great football coach who has built a rapport with his players, is great with X's and O's and a great recruiter.
#PrepareU Extras ...
? As temperatures dipped into the low 30s, coach Whittingham bundled up a little more with a sweatshirt and wind pants at today's practice (compared to shorts at yesterday's workout). When asked why, he just said it was a 'gut feeling.'
? The scout team wore dark maroon jerseys to simulate Stanford.
