Keep checking UtahUtes.com all season for a behind-the-scenes look at some of the University of Utah football team's preparations. The Utes continued to prepare for their matchup against No. 5 Oregon on Tuesday at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in full pads on Tuesday for its first on-field practice in preparation to face No. 5 Oregon (Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. MDT / ESPN). Touching a ball carrier was enough to bring them down during a workout held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
? The Utes continued to get ready for their matchup against No. 5 Oregon by concentrating on the assignments and techniques of each phase of the game they will need to face the Ducks.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with 7-on-7 scrimmaging with a simulated line made of ladders from midfield facing south.
? The next period of practice saw the wide receivers and defensive backs in 1-on-1 situations in the south end, while the interior linemen and linebackers went through assignment in the north end.
? Practice concluded with full-team special teams work.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? His team concentrates on tempo each practice. They have to be prepared to face high-tempo offenses in this league.
? Commented that linebacker Pita Taumoepenu has played well. He needs to continue to do so and will continue to get reps in practice.
? Indicated that Utah's key to facing Oregon Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Marcus Mariota is to be disciplined in staying in its rushing lanes.
? He also said the most effective way to limit Mariota is for the offense to posses the ball and keep the Duck offense on the sidelines.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Ute Players ...
Offensive Line Coach Jim Harding
? The bottom line is that everyone has to do their jobs. We have to pass protect as long as we have to.
? It all starts and ends up front.
#PrepareU Extras ...
? Utah remained No. 17 in the first-ever College Football Playoff rankings.
? Due to Daylight Savings, the Utes practiced under the lights for the first time this season.
? "Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crue was a highlighted musical track at today's practice.
