WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - For the second-straight year, Utah kicker Andy Phillips has been named as one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, which is presented to the nation's top placekicker. Phillips is one of six repeat semifinalists on the list.
Phillips, a two-time Lou Groza Star of the Week this season, is one of just two FBS kickers with more than 10 field goals on kicks from 40+ yards. He is 11-of-13 from 40+ yards with makes of 43 (twice), 44, 45, 46 (twice), 47, 48 (twice) and 50 yards (twice).
Overall, Phillips is 17-for-20 (85.0%) and his 17 made fields goals is tied for fourth in the nation and first in the Pac-12. He is tied for third in the nation and is first in the Pac-12 in field goals per game (2.13). Phillips ranks fourth nationally and leads the Pac-12 in scoring among kickers with 10.1 points per game.
For his career, Phillips has connected on 33-of-40 field goals (82.5%) and is 20-of-24 (83.3%) from 40+ yards. He is 71-for-71 in career PATs.
Phillips, who kicked the game-winning field goal with 34 seconds remaining against No. 8 UCLA, also recovered his own onside kick against Bruins, raising his successful onside kick total to 3-of-3 in his career.
Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 24 and they will be honored in a ceremony on Dec. 9 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.
