SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah golf team is slated to tee off its spring season at the 2014 Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz., hosted by Loyola Maryland. The tournament will be held Monday through Tuesday and live stats will be available at golfstat.com. This is the Utes' inaugural appearance at the tournament.
Course
The tournament is being held on the par-72, 6,590-yard Palms Course of Palm Valley Golf Club.
Format
The first day of competition will begin Monday with an 8 a.m. MT shotgun start for two rounds of play. The third and final round will also begin with an 8 a.m. MT shotgun start on Tuesday.
The Field
Utah will compete against 17 teams including Air Force, Connecticut, Gonzaga, Illinois State, Indiana (No. 59), host Loyola Maryland, Missouri State, Missouri-Kansas City, Murray State, Navy, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, St. John's, Tennessee Tech, Utah Valley and William & Mary, as well as individuals from Arizona State.
Last Time Out
The Utes last appeared at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Kaua'i, Hawaii in November of last year. The squad finished in 16th place after posting identical second and third round scores of 293, for a ten-over-par total of 874.
Sophomore Jonathon Thomas matched his second-round score of 71 in the third round, tying for 35th with a two-under score of 214 (72-71-71). Senior Daniel Engle swung a 77 in the third round to finish at 218 (72-69-77) to tie for 58th.
Junior Jack Maerki tied for 63rd with a mark of 219 (69-80-70), while sophomore Brent Pollock posted a 225 (75-74-76) to tie for 83 rd. Sophomore Steven Croft finished with a 230 (75-79-76).
