FALL CAMP WEEK 2

Week two of Utah's football camp will be a busy one with two scrimmages and seven additional practices. Along with double-day practices on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Utes will hold scrimmages on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Camp is closed to the public.

CAMP NOTES

Both Tuesday and Saturday's scrimmages will feature around 80-90 plays ... Initial walk-ons who have been awarded scholarships for the fall are kicker Andy Phillips, defensive linemen Jason Fanaika and Clint Shepard, and offensive lineman Nick Nowakowski ... Freshman wide receiver Raelon Singleton will miss the 2014 season due to injury ... The fall camp 105 includes 19 new walk-ons. First-time Ute walk-ons added last week were freshman offensive lineman Aaron Amaama, freshman linebacker Thomas Lash, senior wide receiver Ryan Petersen and freshman tight end Emerson Woods ... Petersen was "discovered" after being named the MVP of the 2013 and 2014 MUSS flag football games, held before the Red-White spring game. A club/intramural baseball, basketball and volleyball star, Petersen has also played for the men's practice squad at Utah women's basketball practices.

INSIDE THE HUDDLE

Four true freshmen are on this week's defensive depth chart as backups: nose tackle Lowell Lotulelei, cornerback Travonne Hobbs, free safety Marcus Williams and strong safety Andre Godfrey. On offense, Jackson Barton is in this week's two deep at right tackle ... Nate Orchard has moved to right end after starting the past three seasons at left end. Moving with him is backup Pita Taumoepenu, while co-starters Jason Fanaika and Hunter Dimick slid over to left end ... After moving from offense to defense in the spring/summer, former running back Marcus Sanders-Williams and former wide receiver Brian Allen are already in the defensive two deep: Sanders-Williams at both stud and mac linebacker and Allen at free safety ... Kaelin Clay has the inside track to return both punts and kickoffs--the latter with Devontae Booker.
