? Head coach Kyle Whittingham announced that five Utes will serve as captains during the 2014 season as voted on by the team last night ...
o Offense: Junior Salt and Dres Anderson
o Defense: Brian Blechen and Nate Orchard
o Special Teams: Andy Phillips
? The Saturday morning practice at Rice-Eccles Stadium saw the Utes in full pads with "thud" tackling.
Practice Highlights ...
? The media availability period (final 20 minutes) began with a 7-on-7 segment for the first and second units that saw Kenneth Scott make a nice grab on a pass thrown by Travis Wilson. The linemen conducted 1-on-1's in the north end zone.
? The Utes then broke into position groups for individual drills where Blechen dropped into coverage and pinned a ball against the back plate of his shoulder pads for an interception.
? Practice concluded with four drives of live work that began at the offense's own 40-yard line with the first and second teams alternating series.
? Tim Patrick made a nice tip toe catch from Wilson along the right sideline for a 20-yard gain before Anderson hauled in a touchdown reception.
? Kendal Thompson rolled to his left and found Evan Moeai on the opposite hash for a nice gain.

On adding a special teams' captain for this season:
"The team came to me and asked if we could add a special teams' captain because it's an important phase of the game and we put a great deal of value on it."
Post-Practice Impressions from the Utes
Placekicker Andy Phillips
On being named a captain:
"I'm honored and speechless, but I know I have to continue to work hard and be ready to hit field goals and whatever else the team needs me to do."
Safety Brian Blechen
On being named a captain:
"It's an honor and a privilege. It's my job to take this team where it needs to go in order to reach a bowl game and hopefully a Pac-12 championship."
Tight End Westlee Tonga
On the offense:
"We have found our speed and have made steady improvements throughout camp and a lot of that is due to our depth."
#PrepareU Extras
The @UtahFootball Camp Olympics concluded Saturday with a little community service, as the teams built new bikes for students from Mana Academy, and concluded the day with a relay race.
Safeties coach Morgan Scalley's squad, Team Scalleywags, was declared the official #CampKyle Olympic Games champions and rewarded with a ride back to the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Facility in oversized SUVs of comfort.
