? The Utes were in helmets, shorts and shoulder pads for their third practice of the week Wednesday at the Eccles Football Center. Ball carriers and receivers were downed after being touched.
? Utah focused on punt team coverage and red zone situations.
Practice Highlights ...
? The media availability period (final 20 minutes) started with punt coverage work from midfield before live team work in the red zone.
? The first drive of the live work began with the first unit operating from the 17-yard line.
? Tight end Siale Fakailoatonga caught a touchdown pass from Kendal Thompson on a corner route.
? The next set of drives began as Travis Wilson found Kenneth Scott on a fade route for a score, but cornerback Davion Orphey was credited with a pass breakup on the two-point conversion.
? Thompson found Tim Patrick on a nice back-shoulder throw in the end zone. Thompson also made a reception on his own pass, which was initially batted up in the air by linebacker Jared Norris.
? Dominique Hatfield capped the drive with a touchdown catch.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? "It was a good day of practice, cleaner than yesterday. We've been working on run defense, getting into the right locations. Dominique Hatfield is about 80 at corner right now, but his skill set in both [corner and wide receiver]. He is a very good receiver, but we still feel he has more value at corner."
? He assessed that Fresno State's co-starting quarterbacks do not have dramatically different skill-sets.
? Whittingham also announced that linebacker Gionni Paul will not play against Fresno State.

? Cornerbacks coach Sharrieff Shah came off the practice field with a bit of a hoarse voice, but explained that "my voice leaves me every day, but I keep talking."
