Keep checking UtahUtes.com all season for a behind-the-scenes look at some of the University of Utah football team's preparations. The Utes continued to prepare for their first Pac-12 Conference road game at UCLA.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in full pads on Tuesday for its first practice of UCLA week (Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PT / Pac-12 Networks). The no-contact workout was held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility.
? The Utes began preparing for their first road game against a conference opponent by focusing on each phase they will need to face the Bruins.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with the first and second offensive and defensive lines going through their assignments in the north end, while 7-on-7 drills were held on the 35-yard line in the south end.
? Full-team special teams work was then held in the south end zone, while the wide receivers and quarterbacks ran routes on air.
? Full-time live work on both ends of the field with the first-team offense and first -team defense facing scout teams concluded practice.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? The team came out with a positive mental attitude, mental toughness and executed well during practice, which he attributed to the team's strong leadership.
? Whittingham said the best remedy after a disappointing loss is to get back on the practice field and focus on a new opponent.
? The offense is a work in progress. The run game is in good shape, but have to become more productive throwing the football. It's not one guy or one phase of the throwing game, it's that everyone has to get better.
? After looking at the Washington State film, there were a lot of plays to be made that we typically do make, but we didn't make them.
? On UCLA, Whittingham praised its linebackers and was impressed with its defensive front and active secondary.
? Devontae Booker earned the starting spot at running back with his performance last Saturday night.
? Linebacker Jaoby Hale took some reps in individual drills during practice.
? Need to make sure Dres Anderson is involved in the offense and is a weapon that needs to be used.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Ute Players ...
Linebacker Gionni Paul
? There were a lot of positives after looking at the Washington State film.
? He said that in the game of football, people slip and unfortunate things happen, but the Utes still had opportunities to make plays.
Quarterback Travis Wilson
? Said he has gone through bad days before and come out better than before.
? He is blessed and grateful to be able to playing football right now.
#PrepareU Extras ...
? The Ute scout teams wore powder blue jerseys.
? "We have 10 different colors of practice jerseys. Some times we don't match exactly, but this week we do."
