The University of Utah men's tennis is currently ranked 59th in the nation, according to ITA's first NCAA Division I team rankings for 2015.
The Pac-12 boasts seven of eight teams ranked in the top 75, including No. 1 USC, No. 4 UCLA and No. 16 California.
"It's nice to be recognized by the ITA in the first team rankings of the year and I'm especially happy for the guys. They worked their butts off in the fall," said head coach Roeland Brateanu.
Senior Cedric Willems, who had an outstanding fall season, ranks No. 4 in the ITA Mountain Region in singles. Senior Slim Hamza, who ranked No. 51 in the nation in the preseason ITA rankings, lost his national and regional rankings, due to an injury that kept him from competing during the fall season.
The Utes will begin their spring season with a road trip to Athens, Ga., as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by the University of Georgia. Utah is slated to take on No. 55 Elon Jan. 23, follow by either No. 8 Georgia on Jan. 24 or No. 63 Michigan State on Jan. 25.
Fans can catch Utah men's tennis action at home Saturday, Jan. 31 as the Utes host, Montana State at 12 p.m. MT and Utah State at 5 p.m. MT at the Eccles Tennis Center.
