Salt Lake City, UT - Almost a year after he signed his National Letter of Intent with the University of Utah men's tennis team, David Micevski is set to join the Utes in January.
"We are excited David is finally joining our team," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "David is a very intelligent young man, who is very dedicated to both the game of tennis and his academics. I know he will have a great impact on our team."
Micevski is set to join a young, but talented Ute squad that has had a successful fall. The Utes won 5 singles and 5 doubles tournaments and saw freshman Dan Little runner up at the ITA Regional Tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"Competition for the starting line up, as well as the travel team will be brutal this year," continued Brateanu. "But that competition and depth is what will help us get better."
Micevski is a 7-time Macedonian National Junior Champion and is a current member of the Macedonian Davis Cup team. He holds a career high ITF Junior World Ranking of No. 353 with a career best win over world's No. 62 Domagoj Biljesko of Croatia at the European Championships in Klosters, Switzerland in 2014. Furthermore, he has notable wins over Aziz Dougaz (Tunisia - ITF #90) Kenneth Raisma (Estonia - ITF #119). In the past year he has been very active on the ITF Futures Tour, where he qualified for the main draw of the Serbia F10 Futures in Novi Sad, Serbia.
"I can't wait to join my teammates and coaches so we can start the path of success for the Utes," said Micevski.
The Utes will host their first spring practice on Monday January 4th in preparation for their home opener against the University of San Francisco in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 15. The Dons finished last year ranked No. 51 in the nation. Utah will also square off against the University of Hawaii and Sacramento State while in Hawaii.
