LOS ANGELES - The 72nd-ranked University of Utah men's tennis team (9-6) was upset by the Loyola Marymount Lions (7-6, 0-2 WCC) Tuesday by a score of 4-1 at the LMU Tennis Center. Freshman Johan Jonhagen captured the Utes' solo point and also netted a victory in doubles play with partner Santiago Sierra.

In doubles play, Loyola Marymount's Errol Smith and Joat Farah defeated senior Cedric Willems and junior Matt Cowley at the No. 1 position, 6-3. Jonhagen and Sierra then captured a 6-4 victory over Othar Kordsachia and Luke Bohuslav at the third slot. Junior Jamey Swiggart and sophomore Parker McGuiness then put in a solid effort at the No. 2 spot, but were unable to upend Charles Boyce and Cristobal Rivera and fell in the tiebreaker, 7-6(4).

As Utah went into singles down 0-1, Jonhagen quickly tied the match at one apiece from the sixth slot, 6-2, 6-1. The Lions then answered with thee-straight wins from the Nos. 4, 5 and 1 positions, making the final score 4-1.

The Utes will next take on Yale at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., at 10 a.m. PT Thursday.
