SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah football team continued the fourth week of its spring practice on Thursday with the 11th of 15 on-field workouts at Rice-Eccles Stadium. UtahUtes.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look during each of the Utes' spring practices.
Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for its 11th practice of the spring during an overcast afternoon at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
? Periods 15-18, approximately the final 45 minutes, of practice began with 7-on-7 work from a spacer at the offense's own 40-yard line.
? Utah then went through full-team work with the first and second units rotating possessions.
? The live work then moved to the two-minute drill from the offense's own 45-yard line.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? Today's practice focused on situational details and disguising formations.
? Program has had success with position switches because they recruit athletes who have raw athletic talent.
? The coaching staff has a good chemistry. The key to build continuity is limiting egoes and becoming comfortable with the players.
? The staff has done a good job recruiting top in-state talent.
? The focus of spring practice is to build on technique and fundamentals (as opposed to schemes), which will in turn help win games.
? The defense has done a great job with leadership.
? Position battles still remain.
? Saturday's scrimmage (Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) in Rice-Eccles Stadium is the most important of spring practice.
Quarterback Chase Hansen
? Not feeling too much rust, any rust he is going through is mental.
? He carried around a football at all times during his mission in Brisbane, Australia.
Linebacker Sunia Tauteoli
? Served final year of LDS mission with Beaver Ho Ching.
? Claimed to be one of the jokesters, pranksters on the team.
? Said the Utah football team is like his family.
Spring Camp Extras
? The second scrimmage of the spring is Saturday, Apr. 18 at Rice-Eccles Stadium from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
