Utah Football Enters Week 3 of Spring Camp

CAMP WEEK 3

Utah's three practices this week will be highlighted by the first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 10 a.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Leading up to the scrimmage will be practices on Tuesday and Thursday. All outdoor practices and scrimmages in the spring are open to the public.

ULTIMATE TAILGATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Spaces are still available for the annual Ultimate Tailgate Championship on April 25 prior to the Red-White game. Tailgate spaces in the west lot of Rice-Eccles Stadium range from four to 12 parking stalls. While the event is free, registration is required. To register online, go to http://www.utahutes.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/ultimate-tailgate-championship-2015.html. Tailgating starts at 6 a.m. leading up to the 1 p.m. kickoff. Two Ultimate Tailgate Competitions will be judged by a panel of celebrities: Best Overall Tailgate Spread and Best BBQ.

CAMP NOTES

Backup running back Troy McCormick suffered a serious knee injury last week. He will miss the rest of spring camp and his ability to return in the fall is in doubt ... With McCormick out, starter Devontae Booker's new backup is walk-on redshirt freshman Tani Leha'uli ... Moving into the lead role at slot back is Bubba Poole, while Evan Moeai is No. 1 at tight end ... New to the offensive two deep is true freshman receiver Tyrone Smith and redshirt freshman Aaron Amaama at right guard ... Sophomore junior college transfer Sunia Tauteoli came off the injured list last Friday and is now the backup at mac linebacker ... Rover linebacker Gionni Paul (foot) could be available in the next week or two ... Standouts on the defense last week included backup tackles Stevie Tu'ikolovatu and Viliseni Fauonuku ... Receiver Tim Patrick hopes to participate in non-contact drills in the next week or two ... Scholarship players who will miss the rest of spring camp with injuries are offensive lineman Salesi Uhatafe, running backs McCormick and Dre'Vian Young, defensive tackle Vaha Vainuku and cornerback Ahmad Christian.

SPRING SCRIMMAGES/GAME

The Utes will hold scrimmages in Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, April 11 (10 a.m.) and Saturday, April 18 (10 a.m.). The Red-White game is Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
