SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah football player Nate Orchard and sport dietitian Beth Wolfgram were both recognized at the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitian Association (CPSDA) conference for their excellence in nutrition.
Orchard, a 2014 All-American, the Ted Hendricks' and Morris award winner and a second-round NFL draft pick, received the Muscle Milk "Male Athlete of the Year" award. The Muscle Milk award recognizes student-athletes whose accomplishments reflect dedication to sports nutrition. Wolfgram, a registered dietitian, board certified specialist in sports dietetics, and certified strength and conditioning specialist, received a National Excellence Award from the CPSDA.
Orchard signed with Utah out of high school as a 195-pound wide receiver. He converted to defensive end as a true freshman and began working with Wolfgram and the strength staff to increase his weight and improve his strength. Under Wolfgram's guidance, he focused on improving his food choices and he gained 25 pounds in his first season. He played at 255 pounds as a senior last season, when he led the nation in sacks per game.
Wolfgram is in her eighth year directing Utah's intercollegiate athletics nutrition department.
