Classes at the University of Utah began today, signaling the start of the regular-season practice schedule for the football team. All fall practices are closed to the public. Media opportunities and policies are found on the sidebar of page 1.

From the Sidelines
The annual U Fan Fest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The event is free to the public. There will be interactive games and photo and autograph opportunities with student-athletes from Utah's 18 varsity teams ... FOX Sports 1 will host its studio show live from Rice-Eccles Stadium beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 2, leading up to the season opener on FS1 against Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 3. The FS1 hosts will be Collin Cowherd, Dave Wannstedt, Rob Stone and Matt Leinart. The set will be located in the southwest corner of the Rice-Eccles Stadium field ... National media who will be in attendance for Utah's game against Michigan include reporters from the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, L.A. Times, San Francisco Examiner, Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo.com, ESPN.com and ESPN.

There were no changes to the offensive, defensive or special teams' depth charts from last week ... Team captains were announced last week. They are kicker Andy Phillips, running back Devontae Booker, receiver Kenneth Scott, and linebackers Gionni Paul and Jared Norris. Phillips, a junior, is in his second season as a team captain ... Marcus Sanders-Williams has returned to his original position at running back after experimenting at linebacker.
