TUCSON, Ariz. - The Utah men's golf team opens the 2016 spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30. The 54-hole event will be held in Tucson, Ariz., at the Sewailo Golf Club.
The event will be played over two days, with teams playing two rounds on Friday followed by the final 18 holes of the tournament on Saturday. Friday's opening-round will be a shotgun start set to begin at 8 a.m. MT, while Saturday's final round is planned to begin at 8:30 a.m. MT.
Alongside Utah, there will be 15 other teams competing in the event including, Arizona, BYU, California, Cal State Fullerton, Denver, Iowa State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Texas, UTEP, Washington, and Washington State.
The Utes are coming off a ninth place finish at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., last October. Utah finished the 54-hole event with a score of 14-over par (878) at the Grandover Resort. Senior Jose Pelayo led the Utes carding a 3-over par (72-72-75=219) to finish in a tie for 28th-place.
Utah finished 14th overall at the Arizona Intercollegiate back during the 2012-13 season. Brandon Kida finished the two-day event in a tie for 62nd-place, scoring a 14-over par (74-77-76=227). Gentry Hicks and Jonathon Thomas also competed in the event placing 68th and 86th, respectively.
