Junior advances past teammate Micevski
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Santiago Sierra continued his outstanding play and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Mountain Regional at the at the expense of fellow Ute David Micevski.

In a spirited matchup between the two teammates, it was Sierra coming out on top, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 against the No. 2-seeded Micevski. The junior from Mexico will now battle No. 3 seed, Jacob Amilon of UNLV tomorrow morning.

Over on the consolation side of the bracket, two Utes each won a pair of matches to continue playing. Dan Little beat Jonas Maier of Utah State, 7-6, 6-4 then defeated Jonathan Aremon of Nevada, 6-2, 6-1. He will continue playing along with Slava Shainyan who knocked off Wyatt Lovera of Denver, 6-4, 6-2 then topped Samuel Serrano of USU, 6-1, 6-1.
Also in consolation play, Benjamin Heck lost to Julien Evrard of Nevada, 6-4, 6-3, Azat Hankuliyev fell to Ryland McDermptt of Boise State in a tight one, 4-6, 7-6, 10-5, and Egbert Weverink retired due to an injury.

With three doubles teams in the Round of 16, it was a disappointing finish as none of them advanced to the quarterfinals. Little and Shainyan were beaten by the No. 9 seeds, Mauri Benetiz and Stjin Dehaan of New Mexico State, 8-5. The No. 4 seeds, Ruben Alberts and Jacob Amilon of UNLV, knocked off Parker McGuiness and Micevski, 8-6, and Hankuliyev and Sierra fell to the No. 6 seeds, Pedro Fernandez Del Valle and Jesse Ruder Hook of Denver, 8-4.

In consolation action, Weverink and Woolley lost to Jaime Barajas and Kai Wehnelt of Utah State, 8-4.
