KAUAI, Hawaii- The Utah men's golf team heads to Kauai, Hawaii, to compete in the John. A Burns Intercollegiate Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Feb. 17-19. The 54-hole event will be held at the Wailua Golf Course.
The event will be played over three days with golfers playing one round (18 holes) each day. All rounds are set to be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Joining Utah in the field is last year's defending team champion, California, along with Arizona, BYU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kennesaw State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Texas, Texas A&M, UNLV, UTEP, Washington, Washington State, and Virginia.
The Utes are coming off second and 12th place finishes at the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invite. Utah's A-team finished the event with a score of 3-over par (579) at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, while Utah's B-team finished the event with a score of 36-over par (612). Utah had four top-20 finishes with senior Jose Pelayo leading the way carding a 6-under par (72-66=138) to earn a third-place overall.
The last appearance for the Utes at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate was during the 2012-13 season where they finished in 14th-place. Brandon Kida led the Utes in every round to finish in a tie for 20th-place with a score of 8-over par (75-77-72=224). Gentry Hicks also competed and finished the event at 17-over par (80-79-74=233) to finish in a tie for 58th-place.
