Salt Lake City, UT – Utah men's tennis team announced the commitment of Chase Stoner to its 2016 class of recruits. Born in Minneapolis, Stoner was raised in Salt Lake City and has been ranked as high as No. 104 in the nation in singles and No. 69 in doubles.
"We are incredibly excited about Chase's commitment to our program," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "He is a very hard worker, a talented player and has a solid foundation that will propel him to a successful college career."
Under the instruction of Lindsay and Francis Rawstorne, Stoner achieved impressive rankings during his time in junior tennis. He reached a four-star recruit ranking and was No. 1 in the state of Utah and Intermountain region for singles and doubles. He also secured two state championships while playing for Brighton High School.
"It feels amazing, "Stoner said upon committing. " I am so excited to train and compete with my team. I have to thank my coaches Francis and Lindsay Rawstorne for always believing in me and sacrificing so much time and effort to help develop me into the player I am today. I also have to thank my family for giving me the chance to play tennis and always being there for me through the ups and downs of my career. Without them I would never be in this position.
Chase was raised by his parents Rob and Shanda Stoner, and he has a brother and a sister. He hopes to pursue a career in entrepreneurship and/or marketing at the University of Utah.
"I chose to come here because when I went on my visit, I fell in love with the program. The environment was so positive and the coaches and team were awesome. Utah gives me the opportunity to become the best that I can be on and off the court."
