Practice Summary ...
• Utah was in full pads for its last session of public on-field work during a picture-perfect spring evening at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
• After a brief period of live work facing the south end of the stadium, each unit spread throughout the field to focus on individual techniques.
• Next up, the offensive and defensive linemen headed to the south end where they split up to hone their skills, while all other players headed to the north end for 7-on-7 competition.
• Kickoff return coverage was the focal point for the next period with the focus on lane responsibilities.
• Live work was featured next with live work starting from the offense's own 40-yard line.
• Wide receiver Caleb Repp made a pair of impressive grabs, one over the middle down the west season for 30 yards and on a crossing route (where he also broke a tackle) to move the Ute offense into a goal-to-go situation.
• Pasoni Tasini leaped up from his defensive tackle spot for a pass breakup.
• Defensive end Chris Hart came up with a strip sack.
• A two-minute drill sequence concluded practice as 1:17 was placed on the stadium clock and Tyler Huntley connected with Siaosi Wilson on a back shoulder throw to once again put the Ute offense in a goal-to-go situation.
From Coach Whittingham ...
• Utah quarterbacks have been impressive. Brandon Cox has played his best since he's been a Ute, hands down. He has stayed healthy and has looked polished.
• Saturday's festivities are fun. The MUSS game starts at 10 a.m., followed the Alumni game at 11 a.m. so it's great to see the old players come back.
• Throw game has improved this spring, particularly in the live work.
• With Joe Williams and Troy McCormick slotted as running backs, the key will be to find the third and fourth guys to contribute.
• Linebacking corps is taking shape. Sunia Tauteoli is definitely the guy who is atop the leaderboard, followed by Cody Barton and Evan Eggiman, who came out of nowhere and was impressive this spring.
• Receivers as a whole have taken a step forward, but still have to make a lot of progress this summer. Guy Holliday has done a nice job with them.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Utes ...
Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Jim Harding
• Offensive line improved as they got more reps during spring practice.
• The first couple weeks of fall camp are when the depth chart is really solidified.
• A more balanced offense is the ideal outcome.
• Quarterbacks getting more and more comfortable with each rep during spring practice.
