Utes Dominate on Day Two of Utah Invitational

Utes take 10 of 12 singles matches, three of four in doubles
SALT LAKE CITY -Â After a slow start on Friday, Utah Men's Tennis dominated play on day two at the Utah Invitational. The Utes won three of four doubles matches, and 10 of 12 singles matches to take control of the event.
Freshman Benjamin Heck impressed on Saturday, dropping only 11 games en route to winning a pair of matches in straight sets.
Freshman Slava Shainyan started slowly against Sam Serrano of Utah State. Trailing by a set and down 3-0 in the second, he managed to win the next eight games in route to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Junior Santiago Sierra, as well as sophomore Joe Woolley, won a pair of thrilling three-set matches over USU competitors. In his only singles match of the day, junior Egbert Weverink kept things simple and defeated Utah State senior Andrew Nakajima 6-4, 6-3
After dropping his first singles match of the day, redshirt freshman Azat Hankuliyev defeated Montana's Peter Fleming 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Dan Little won his only singles match of the day, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over nationally ranked Jaime Barajas of Utah State.
The Utes' are looking to take Saturday's swagger and momentum into the final day of play. The Utes will wrap up the Utah Invitational Sunday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. First serve is at 9am MT. Parking and admission will be free.
