MINNEAPOLIS - The Utah men's tennis team completed play this afternoon at the Gopher Invitational at the University of Minnesota with
Egbert Weverink and
David Micevski finishing in fifth place.
Teaming together for the first time this weekend, Micevski and Weverink were able to rally and defeat Grayson Broadus and Richard Ciamarra of Notre Dame. After dropping the doubles point, 7-5, Weverink crushed Ciamarra in singles action, 6-1, 6-4 to even the match. It came down to Micevski, who dropped the first set, 3-6, but rebounded to win the second 6-2 and then capture an exhilarating tiebreak, 12-10 to secure the victory for the Utes.Â
Over in the Gold draw,
Joe Woolley and
Randy Cory continued their solid play, beating Stefan Lalovic and Pedro Platzeck of Boise State. After winning the doubles point, 6-4, Cory suffered a 6-3, 6-1 setback to Platzeck. However, Woolley was cruising in his singles match and earned the win, 6-4, 6-2, over Lalovic.
