HONOLULU, Hawaii - Utah Softball smashed three homers en route to a 10-1 win over Toledo in five innings to open the Outrigger Spring Fling Tournament.
Alyssa Barrera opened the game by belting the first homer of her career, a two-run homer to right that scored
Delilah Pacheco for a 2-0 lead.Â
Katie Cozy got Toledo on the board with her fourth homer of the season, a solo shot to left in the second.
In the bottom half of the inning, BreOnna Castaneda drew a lead-off walk and
Bridget Castro doubled to bring her home. One batter later,
Kelly Martinez hit the ball in almost the exact spot for another RBI two-bagger and a 4-1 lead.
In the fifth, Barrera singled and
Anissa Urtez smashed her first homer of the season to open things up for Utah at 6-1.
Heather Bowen, Castaneda and
Kay Kay Fronda all drew walks before Martinez ended the game with a towering grand slam to left.
Katie Donovan got back on track with her eighth win of the season, striking out five batters, four in the first two innings.
The only blemish on a solid day by the Utes was seeing
Hannah Flippen's on-base streak snapped at 22 games.
The Utes play Charleston Southern and the host Rainbow Wahine tomorrow in a doubleheader, starting at 3:30 p.m. HT/6:30 p.m. MT
