Utah Softball will host a NCAA Regional for the first time in program history at Dumke Family Softball Stadium, Thurs.-Sat.
Â
The Utes take on Fordham, champions of the Atlantic 10, in the nightcap at approximately 6:30 p.m. That contest follows BYU and Mississippi State who are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

The Utes went 33-14 overall and finished fifth in the Pac-12 Conference with a record of 13-9. The 13 conference wins matched last year's program record

With 11 wins against teams ranked in the Top 25, including a series victory over No. 1 Arizona, a sweep of No. 10 UCLA in Westwood and shutouts of No. 13 Tennessee and No. 7 LSU, Utah is in the NCAA Tournament for a record third year in a row and 15th time overall.

The Utes have an all-time record of 21-32 in NCAA postseason play, including a 20-24 record in Regional Tournaments.

Last season, Utah won three of four games at the Lexington Regional to advance to Super Regionals for the first time since the expansion of the NCAA Tournament. The Utes were then beaten by No. 8 Florida State

Utah and the Cougars met this season in Provo with BYU coming out on top, 4-3. The Utes are 4-2 all-time vs. Mississippi State with the last contest occurring in 2005 and 1-0 vs. Fordham with the only meeting in 2007.

UTAH NOTES
- This senior class has eclipsed the 30-win mark during all four seasons, the first group to do that since 1998.

- Utah's high-water mark in the NFCA rankings this season, No. 10, occurred between April 18 and May 2

- Utah ranks 21st nationally in scoring at 5.7 runs per contest and is 25th nationally with a team batting average of .311

- Over the last four weeks,
Bridget Castro is second on the team for Utah with a .366 batting average. She is fourth in the Pac-12 this year with three triples and has reached base in 15 straight games.

Hailey Hilburn, used mainly in relief during conference play, ranks sixth in the Pac-12with a 1.63 ERA and 5.5 hits allowed per seven innings.

- Defensively, Utah leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with 29 double plays turned. The Utes were second in the nation last season with 41.

- The Utes are one of seven Pac-12 teams ranked among the top 25 nationally in the RPI, sitting at No. 19

- The five players selected to the first and second all-conference teams this past week are the most for Utah since it joined the Pac-12. The Utes had three first and second-team selections the past two seasons.

FLIPPEN NAMED PAC-12 PLAYER OF YEAR
For the second year in a row,
Hannah Flippen was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year.

Flippen ranks among the top 10 in the Pac-12 in a number of offensive categories such as batting average (1st), on-base percentage (1st), slugging percentage (3rd), runs batted in (4th) triples (4th), total bases (5th), doubles (6th), runs scored (7th) and homers (9th)

The 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year has started every game of her career and will leave with the school records for runs scored and batting average and currently ranks third all-time in walks and hits and fifth in homers

A member of the US National Team and Academic All-America First Team selection, Flippen became the eighth player to win consecutive Pac-12 Player of the Year awards since it was introduced in 1987. She is the first Ute to be named conference player of the year in consecutive seasons.

Utah players went back-to-back capturing the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year awards in 2000 (Kristin Arbogast) and 2001 (Lyndsey Trevis).

Charmelle Green (1991) and current head coach Amy (Timmel) Hogue (1994) were the other two Utes to earn Player of the Year awards at Utah (Western Athletic Conference)

Flippen was also named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Ute to ever earn that award. She is the first player to complete the double since this award was introduced in 2005
