SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah football team took to the field this morning in Rice-Eccles Stadium for its eighth practice of fall camp and its first on its home turf.

The electricity was obvious among the team as their cleats touched the surface that they would look to protect this fall.

Media Observation Highlights…
Â
• There was a focus on punt returns.
• Boobie Hobbs took the most reps as a punt returner.
• Demari Simpkins and Bronson Boyd also saw action as a punt returner.
• The third string lineup did live plays at the end of the media observation period.
• Freshman Jason Shelley had a nice completion to Tyquez Hampton on the outside … Hampton broke several tackles to pick up yardage after the reception.

On when captains will be named…
"We will probably vote for those guys either at the end of next week or towards the beginning of the following week. We want to have a chance for all of the new guys to get to know everybody and get a feel for everybody. We want to make sure we vote intelligently and that we have enough body of work to judge from."

On position battles going on in practice right now…
"We have tons. Quarterback, receivers, secondary. Everyone is in competition right now, nobody is locked in right now. It is about what you've done lately and we want them to continue to play at a high level."

On how the centers played today…
"Not bad. We had a few error snaps here and there, but for the most part it was pretty good. It is a work in progress because some of those guys don't have a lot of reps or experience snapping the ball, so we will expect them to get better as time goes on."

On the battle between Zack Moss and Armand Shyne…
"They are two great backs competing day in and day out. I could see either one of those guys starting or rotating. We need both of those guys. It is good to get Armand back, but we need both of those guys back and continuing to work."

On what he has seen through one week of camp…
"I like the way the offense is gelling together and competing with the defense. It just makes everybody happy and making each other better. It hasn't been one-sided. I feel like we have been giving the defense a good look and we are getting a lot better as an offense and I am just excited for this season."

"This camp is going to help us a lot. It is building our brotherhood and getting us acquainted with each other."Â
