SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah head golf coach
Garrett Clegg has announced that both Dylan Chugg and Oscar Maxfield have singed intent to enroll forms, and that both players will be added to the 2018-19 roster.
"We are thrilled to add Dylan and Oscar to our program," said Clegg. "Dylan is currently serving an LDS mission in the DC area. He was a standout in Utah Junior Golf and one of the top players in the state during his junior career. He plans to spend the 2018-2019 season redshirting and working to get his game into top-form to make an impact in the fall of 2019. Dylan is a powerful player that should transition to the college game, nicely. We are excited to see where his game is after he comes back from his mission.
"Oscar is a local young man that we watched closely all summer long. He is extremely athletic and a starter on the Highland High basketball team, as well as a standout golfer. His golf game made exceptional progress all summer and fall, and it is clear to our staff that he has the ability to help our golf program. We are excited to add Oscar to our team."
Chugg was a four-time First Team All-State golfer at Fremont High School from 2012-16. He was the 2014 and 2015 Region 1 Champion, and he finished in the top-10 at the 5A state tournament each of his four seasons with the Wolves, which included runner-up finishes in both 2013 and 2014. A two-time UJGA Player of the Year awardee, Chugg was also a two-time Junior Match-Play State Champion.
Maxfield is a four-year letterwinner from Highland High School, where he was tabbed a two-time First Team All-State honoree. He was the Region VI champion this past fall. He tallied a 69.1 strokes-per-round average this past season and was the 5A State runner-up. Maxfield made the cut at the Utah Open, where he was the sixth-lowest amateur in the event, with a final score of 1-over par.
