LAST TIME OUT
Utah went 1-1 this past week, first picking up an 80-77 overtime win over No. 21-ranked Arizona State last Thursday, but then falling to No. 11-ranked Arizona, 73-74, this past Saturday.
Â
Utah erased a seven-point first-half deficit and led by seven points at the break, up 40-33. ASU clawed its way back into the contest and led by three-points with under nine seconds to play, but
Sedrick Barefield knocked down a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
Â
Utah would convert all four of its field goal attempts in the overtime period, while ASU managed to go just 3-of-10 and the Utes came away with the three-point victory, outscoring the Sun Devils 11-8 in the extra frame.
Â
Barefield led the Utes with 17 points coming off the bench and all 17 points coming in second/overtime periods. He was 4-of-4 from the three-point line and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Justin Bibbins and
Tyler Rawson both chipped in with 15 points each. Bibbins led the team with six assists and Rawson tallied a team-high nine rebounds in the game.
Â
Despite trailing by as many as 13 points late in the first half, Utah managed to come all the way back and tie the Wildcats late in the second half. Utah, down one point with 4.3 seconds left to play, had a chance to win the game, but its lay-up attempt out of the inbounds pass was unsuccessful and Arizona escaped with the victory. It marked the second time this season that the Utes had given up a double-digit lead to Arizona, but still managed to come back and tie the game at some point. With the win, Arizona managed to sweep the season series from the Utes.
Â
Barefield again led the team in scoring as he poured in a season-high 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a perfect 8-of-8 effort from the free throw line.
David Collette added 14 points and led the way with six rebounds. Utah outscored the Wildcats, 30 to 20, in the paint, 9 to 0 in second chance points, and 37 to 5 in bench points, but Arizona countered converting 64.4 percent (29-of-45) from the field and knocking down 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from downtown.
Â
SCOUTING COLORADO
The Buffaloes, at one point in Pac-12 play, had won four out of five, which included wins over both Arizona and Arizona State, along with wins over UCLA and Washington State. Since then, however, the Buffs have gone 0-3, which included a home loss to Washington back on Jan. 20. CU did open regular season winning six straight before dropping three of its next four games. The Buffs have gone into overtime twice on the season - both times CU has come up with the victory.
Â
McKinley Wright and George King both have scored 314 total points each on the season and both players average a team-best 14.3 points per game. King has a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game average, which ranks third in the league. Wright in second in the league with 119 assists and he also has a team-high 24 steals on the season.

Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BUFFS
Utah trails the overall series 21-26, but has won seven straight over the Buffs and has an 8-5 record against Colorado since both teams joined the Pac-12 in 2011. The Utes are 8-4 in regular-season conference play, as the other loss came to the Buffs in the Pac-12 Tournament (2012). Utah is just 7-17 all-time when facing Colorado in Boulder, but again the Utes have won three straight at Coors Events Center dating back to the 2015 season. The Utes' last loss to Colorado was a 79-75 overtime defeat to the Buffs in Boulder back on Feb. 1, 2014.
Â
The current seven-game winning streak matches the longest consecutive victory streak by either team. Colorado won seven straight from 1938 and 1941.
Â
UTES GET ROAD WIN OVER AP TOP-RANKED TEAM
With its win over then No. 21-ranked Arizona State this past Thursday, Utah snapped a 20-game losing streak to ranked teams in true road games. It also snapped a current five-game losing streak to ranked teams overall. The Utes' last win over a ranked team on the road had come against No. 18 ranked New Mexico, back on Feb. 1, 1999.
