Utes Finish Day Two at Gonzaga Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. –The University of Utah men's tennis team has wrapped up their second day of competition at the Gonzaga Invitational.
In the White Singles bracket, Paul McCallie was able to advance to the third round, as he was able to defeat Kyle Everly from Gonzaga with a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 7-6. McCallie was then unable to advance to the finals, as he fell to Portland's Leo Hibi, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Chase Stoner was able to defeat Michael Quinn from Gonzaga with a final score of 6-4, 6-4, in the first round of consolation matches for the White Singles bracket. Stoner then faced off against Majeed Bukhari of Portland State in the second round of consolation matches for the White Singles bracket, as he defeated Bukhari 6-2, 6-1. Stoner is set to face off against Montana State's Marcos Zelver in the next round of the White Singles consolation bracket tomorrow morning.
In the Red Doubles bracket, McCallie and Stoner faced off against Everly and Egger from Gonzaga in the second round, as McCallie and Stoner fell with a final score of 8-7 (7-4). McCallie and Stoner are set to match up against Blancaneaux and Lalovic from Boise State tomorrow in the back draw of the Blue Doubles bracket.
The duo of Mathias Gavelin and R.J. Parker were victorious against Pudney and Shaffrey from Montana in the first consolation round of the Blue Doubles bracket. Gavelin and Parker will face off against Heslin ad McDermott from Boise State tomorrow in the next round of consolation doubles from the Blue bracket.
In the Blue Singles bracket, Gavelin was unable to defeat Vincent Rettke from Gonzaga, as Gavelin fell with a final score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. In the first consolation round of the Red Singles bracket, Parker also was unable to card a victory, as he fell to Sam Roberts of Portland State with a final score of 6-3, 6-1.
Gavelin will compete tomorrow in the Blue Back Draw Singles bracket, as he will face off against Matteo Fortini from Portland State. Parker will also be back in action, as he will compete against Milo Benn from Montana in the Red Back Draw Singles bracket.
