LOS ANGELES, Calif. –The University of Utah men's tennis team won the team title at the LMU Invite earlier today, beating out host LMU in singles and sweeping Nevada in doubles.
Against LMU,
Dan Little was able to come out on top in a competitive match against Lukas Moenter at the No. 1 spot, with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Slava Shainyan then followed with a win of his own against Lucas Moreno at the No. 2 position, 7-6, 6-1.
Russell Benkaim then defeated Diego Nava with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, on the No. 4 court. The final singles win of the day for the Utes came from
Azat Hankuliyev, as he bester Cartier Juan, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles against Nevada, all three teams were able to notch 8-7 victories against their opponents. At the No. 1 spot,
Randy Cory and Benkaim deafted Merville and Evrard, Little and Hankuliyev beat Nesterenko and Dudockin on the No. 2 court, and then Shainyan and Mathais Gavelin finished things up with a victory against Campi and Radionov at the No. 3 position.
With the conclusion of the LMU Invitational, the Utah men's tennis team has wrapped up competition for the fall. The Utes will open up their spring season with a match against BYU on January 12
th, as they will take on the Cougars in Provo.
